"Kintsugi" is a traditional Japanese technique that uses lacquer and gold powder to repair broken or chipped ceramics. While it has an ecological aspect of repairing and reusing broken items, its most notable feature is that the repaired cracks, referred to as "scenery," give the restored pieces a new aesthetic value known as "porcelarts."
At Kobayashiya, numerous dishes get damaged each year. We carefully store these items, gradually repair them, and return them to use. I would like to highlight that the person who becomes our mentor during this process is a dental technician who lives in the same town. The workshops he organizes guide our staff correctly and help bring new life to the ceramics. Thank you, Mr. Kawahara.

毎年おびただしい数の器が破損します。
小林屋では、それらを捨てずに丁寧に保管し、金継ぎをして再生する活動を進めています。
今年も選抜されたスタッフがWSを受講。これまで溜まった一年分の器を修繕していきます。
指導するのは、同じ町内に住むプロの金繕い職人であり、歯科技工士でもある河原先生。公私ともに「つなぐ」ことを使命とされています。
金継ぎは、壊れたものを直して使うという、エコロジカルな側面もありますが、一番の特徴は、修復された傷跡を「景色」と呼び、新たに「porcelarts」と呼ばれる美的価値を与えるところにあります。
