Usui 101 has a sweeping, second-floor view of the garden on the north side of the main building. A maisonette-style accommodation, its bathroom and washstand are on the first floor, while the living room, bedroom and balcony are on the second floor.

Designed based on a “knowledge” theme, the suite contains more than 100 books for guests to enjoy. These are provided by MINOU BOOKS, a bookstore just 5 minutes or so on foot from the hotel, and supplied-book themes center on nature, history, culture, the lives of local people, and lifestyle. We encourage guests to explore the past, present and future through this rich selection of books while learning more about local lifestyles and getting swept up in the pursuit of new knowledge.

The glass doors on the second floor still use glass panes from the Taisho Period (1912–26), and the wavy inconsistency of this glass material makes the scenery outside appear somewhat distorted. Enjoy a good book on the second-floor balcony while occasionally stopping to look up and peer through this same glass people of past eras looked through, enjoying the same scenery they did.

The bath on the first floor is made from Japanese cypress and provides a great place to relax after your long journey. Savor the woody aromas that fill the bathing area as you reflect on your day and slowly pass the time in luxurious relaxation. The living room and bedroom on the second floor are adjacent to one another, making it easy for families with children to spend quality time together while keeping an eye on the kids.
