The connection between a Dutch language scholar Choei Takano and Nakanojo started in 1831.
Local pupils were very enthusiastic and had built a trusted relationship strongly. They hid Choei during Bansha no goku ( suppression of speech) despite the risk of arresting.
They had to cooperate in order to save the master from constables. Because they had European knowledge from Dutch studies, they used the code “Cardan grille” which was invented in the 16th century and discovered new communication methods which used a cafe　building itself as the key of the code.
