Mabushi

Last-instars silkworms are entered into “Mabushi”, cases divided into small chambers, to weave cocoons. Eventually the silkworms push out the cocoons and leave the “Mabushi”. The empty “Mabushi” welcomes new silkworms. The role of elementary school classrooms is analogous to that of “Mabushi”. Breaking the cocoons and leaving the “Mabushi”, the young school kids will find a new world. By contract the classrooms without anybody will bring a feeling of emptiness. This work shows the contrast of the new world and the emptiness.
