Saga Prefecture situated between the Japan Sea and the Ariake Sea, is blessed with abundant seafood such as squid, octopus, and nori seaweed. It is also famous for the refined pottery of Arita, Imari, and Karatsu. The capital city, Saga, flourished as a castle town of Nabeshima Fief in the Edo period, and has many historical assets. About a million tourists come to the annual Saga International Balloon Fiesta, one of Asia's biggest hot-air balloon conventions. Saga beef is also a popular brand.
